You Just Keep Me Hanging On. #BB18

It's Saturday, but this is not a day of Rest & Relaxation in the Big Brother house.  The house guests barely digested the major events that have happened since Tiffany was evicted on Thursday night, but today is PoV Day, usually the most dramatic day of the week.

These kids have been locked inside since 5:30 am on Tuesday....they are cooped up like animals rattling around in their cages.

Battle Back Returnee:  Victor

HoH: James

The POV players will be:

James - HoH
Frank - nominated for eviction
Bridgette - nominated for eviction
Da'Vonne - random draw
Nicole - random draw
Michelle - random draw (?)

Natalie is hosting.  We don't know yet who the Have Nots will be, if any this week.  The chatter today is about prizes and punishments.  Nicole has already announced she will be happy to wear the costume.  Frank told Bridgette to take the trip, if there is one, since someone would surely take the PoV away from her and stick her with a horrible punishment.

James met with  Bridgette today, telling her that she had his support and if he wins the PoV, he is likely to save her with it.  He's feeling badly about going against his word by nominating her.  James, Bridgette and Da'Vonne were the last players in the HoH competition.  James apparently promised Bridgette safety if she let go of The Wall.

(Why would James save Bridgette only to have to nominate a 3rd person?  Unless he wants to commit a BRUTAL blindside to big players like Paulie or Da'Vonne...unlikely but exciting to think about anyway.)

So he gives an apology for that now, saying he was trying to follow the house with his nominations.  Bridgette says she understands, and would appreciate his help with the PoV.

Natalie is PILING it on today.

I mean, really.

Bridgette came in munching on something crunchy.  Bridgette knows that either she or Frank will be leaving this week.  Natalie thinks it's time for Bridgette to make some deals with people.

Bridgette:  I can't make deals with people who hate me for no reason.

Natalie looks like she's headed onstage to play the Sugar Plum Fairy or something.  She says she looked like crap in the DR yesterday, so she's trying to make up for it.

Natalie:  I was a Have Not...I hadn't showered in two days, and my face was crusty.

She's teasing her hair, so this is serious.

Bridgette got a few Triscuits out of the box and ate them, deep in thought in the storage room.

She decided to put some make up on today, too.

Bridgette:  I haven't worn mascara in two weeks.

After all of the teasing and combing, Natalie ended up pulling her hair up anyway.  Bridgette told her what James said about how he felt badly about nominating her, but that was what a lot of people wanted.

Bridgette:  James is gonna do what they tell him to do Natalie.

Natalie:  I'm realizing that.

Natalie doesn't think the guys want to take a female to the end.  I've heard her bring that up a few times now.

Frank got in a shave as he prepared for the PoV.

Victor came over and said the PoV draw could have been better, so that the guys could have played to help Frank out, but it's not too bad as it is....Frank should be happy.

(i.e. because Michelle, Da'Vonne and Nicole might not be threats to win)

I don't know yet if Victor is on Frank's side or not, but I'm sure he likes knowing that he's not the target in there.  I also know that Victor has repeated what Tiffany told him about not trusting Da'Vonne and trusting Frank, because I know Da'Vonne knows about that now.

So....not  a good sign for Frank, if Victor is talking about that.  Maybe he chose to go with Paul, since he's on the fringes of Paulie's power.

There were more relationship problems to discuss, of course.  And this issue is just as ridiculous as the other NiCorey relationship crises.  Apparently Victor recalled Corey talking weeks ago about meeting a girl a few days before he was kidnapped for the show.  Corey was wondering if she was watching this, and said he wanted to get in touch with her afterwards. Her name was Shane.

Apparently at some point last night, Victor brought out that information, teasingly asking Corey about "that friend you met with the guy's name".  I guess Victor was shocked to see how demonstrative Corey was with Nicole, and he wanted to throw in some drama.

This apparently led to Nicole getting upset with Corey later, and they had words about it.

(Nicole is in for  a RUDE awakening about what Corey's life will be like in September.)

Nicole:  He said, no matter what happens, we'll always be good friends...what does that mean?

Frank took a shower.  The feeds were down a long time for the PoV player pick...people were thnking that there must have been some clues given to the Secret Room, but I didn't hear anyone talk about it.

In the HoH Paulie visited James and wanted to know if it was just the boys in there right now.  It was, James said.  Victor and Corey were in there too.  They touched base about how Frank or Bridgette need to go this week, but I'm sure they are nervous about the PoV.

Paulie:  Zee was difficult to resist last night.  She was coming at me hard core last night.  I tried to do my best, but we almost made a porno in here.

Corey says he's had blue balls for so long, they're black balls now.

Paulie:  I need a night off after that, to calm things down.

Victor "emptied" the tank before coming back in the house, he tells the guys.  I heard him say that the house is so much easier to live in now, and he didn't expect that.  Nicole said no offense, but things started getting better after Jozea left.

Both Tiffany and Bridgette have sisters who are manning their Twitter accounts while they are playing Big Brother.  And neither one of them have felt the need to drag their sister through the mud.

(Of course I'm referring to Michelle's Twitter drama this week.)

Bridgette's sister Jessica is running an official Twitter account for her this summer.

Here's Paul without that nasty growth on his face.  These pictures probably came from his social media but they have floated around the internet so many times I can't quote the source.

I heard Paul say that he has all sorts of contacts in Russia due to relatives who live there, and his contacts with the Armenian community.  Maybe that's why the number of Russian visitors to the website this summer has now topped the number of Canadian visitors for the first time ever.

(Of course the US has the highest number of visitors, but Canada has always been the #2 country until now.)

I can barely explain Paul's BB exploits in English, so I'm not sure how that translates.  Please feel free to share some Paul stories with us if you know him.

He has a growing fan base but is testing our patience by repeating the same catch phrases over and over.

Nomination Aftermath: Eat These Damn Cookies and Act Happy About It. #BB18

Well, Big Brother's first Battle Back episode was certainly entertaining.  The competitions were harder than I expected them to be....Production wasn't just going to give anyone the win....they really needed to work for it.

Based on the various haircuts, and facial hair, it is clear that these battles were actually filmed weekly, just after each Battle Back contestant was evicted (starting with Jozea).  This certainly makes sense from a Production standpoint, because they used the HoH competition set, and made adjustments so that the playing field supported only two players, and also added a few degrees of difficulty to the basic premise.  (i.e. the "poison berry", having to hit the tennis targets, three screens with video instead of just one)

I'm guessing that once Glenn, Jozea, and Bronte lost, they were probably put in sequester together until the Battle Back episode aired----no need to separate them since they are now officially out of the game.  And Tiffany will just get to go home after she meets all of her post-eviction media commitments.

For the final Battle Back competition, it sounds like the overall "psychedelic rave" theme was used for the next HoH competition, and it sounds like it was the competition that the live feeders always love....and endurance competition on "The Wall".  And it went on for 5 1/2 hours.....and we missed it since the live feeds were down. Screwed again.

Oh yeah...James won.  And James already made his nominations, apparently not long before the live feeds came back on at 12:00 AM EST, but not without controversy.

James nominated Frank and Bridgette, in accordance with what "the house wanted".  And there is some drama because during the competition, James apparently made a deal with Bridgette that he wouldn't nominate her.....but of course he did.

(Last year, on July 31st, James won "the wall" HoH endurance competition after promising not to put Shelly and Clay on the block...but that is exactly what James did, James isn't scared to make big moves, but I'm not sure he needed to make this big move now.....he could easily have let someone else make it for him.)

Logistically, after Thursday's live show ended, I think Tiffany had to immediately go in to the backyard to Battle Back against Victor.  Meanwhile the house guests kept on their athletic wear, because they had been told they would compete for HoH at some point.  When Julie came over the intercom to tell them about the Battle Back, they were scrambling to get in the room quickly..

And Victor came through the front door, not the Big Blue Trunk.  I guess hearing the doorbell ring is exciting though.  Some of them were so scared.  Frank and Da'Vonne stood up, and high fived each other to get pumped up, to get ready.  And Nicole went and hid in the back, saying "It's's Jozea...".

When the live feeds finally returned after the nominations, we saw the Mean Girls in the bedroom, saying that Frank seems defeated, and Zakiyah reports that she heard him say that if the whole house wants him out, he might as well go home, and that at least he'll get to be home for the rest of the summer.  Da'Vonne wondered if that is why Frank is going around the house making nice with everybody, because he wants to make things right before leaving.

(Surely Da'Vonne doesn't really believe that.)

Zakiyah: He told me, it wouldn't be Big Brother unless Frank is on the block.

The Nairobi Room was chock full of guys (and Bridgette), chatting easily about the situation.

Frank:  Mama said that I'd only be in here for one or two weeks, because I won so many competitions last time, so I've already beat Mama's expectations.  But I'm a 32 year old man....I knew there would be a lot of young bucks in here!  I've only won two 15 second competitions!

Paulie:  Once a legend in the game, always a legend in the game.

I don't understand why Paulie thinks he needs to be Paul's twin all of the sudden.  But then again, Paulie apparently thought hanging out with Ryan Carillo was cool, too.

Paulie seems to be doing a good job of trying to include Victor in things, but I'm sure he's worried about Victor targeting him.  Because, after all, Paulie is the one who backdoored Victor in the truest sense of the word.  And we saw that Victor was holding some sort of grudge over that. (Just like Glenn was still holding his "get out the vets" grudge...the evictees are all stuck in time back to when they were evicted.)

And of course Paul listened and agreed with everything that was said in this meeting, but he went right to James afterwards and regurgitated everything, putting his own spin on it.  Because James has the power this week, of course, and a true floater will float to the power every time.

Frank is saying that he understands why he's on the block, but thinks either he or Bridgette can get off the block with the PoV.  They had light chatter about how they can hear someone's footsteps and know who it is.

Frank:  Bridgette drags her feet when she walks, but Tiffany had the hardest walk of all!  It actually hurt my back to hear her stomp around so hard.

Frank brings up how mean the girls are to Bridgette, and how they are always mocking how she talks, and how she walks, and he catches them making faces all of the time when Bridgette is in the room.

Paulie claimed that he won't tolerate people being catty in this's not part of his game.  Bridgette feels betrayed by James, whom she liked and felt she could trust.

Bridgette:  I'm pissed.  I sat down and talked with Corey and told him I don't know how long I can take it with them being so mean to me.  And Corey said it's ridiculous, but that the girls would give him shit just for sitting and talking to me.

Frank:  That is ridiculous.

(Note that Frank has been trying to "sell" Bridgette to Corey, Paulie and Nicole for weeks now, saying that she's a loyal soldier, and that she bakes because it is therapeutic for her and she is genuinely happy to do it...not faking. I'm sure Frank feels responsible for putting Bridgette in danger this week.)

Zakiyah is trying to do some damage control to Paulie's bad haircut.  She says her arms don't hurt at all after that competition.

(Supposedly both she and Nicole fell off early in the competition.)

Michelle is in a little pain, I think, but she's got to be happy to have played one of "The Wall" comps, as a Super Fan.

I realized last night that I've just been assuming that Michelle is very smart, since she idolizes players like Ian Terry and Jordan Parhar.  But I think I was wrong about that.....she seems to have the emotional intelligence of a 7th grader, and I've heard her ask a lot of stupid questions in there.

If it's an act, she needs to tell us that in the DR or something.

The fake windows in this room are really great.  It's a great way to light up the room in what looks like a natural way.

Da'Vonne has an ice pack on her shoulder, and decided to lay down to relax until dinner is ready.  It sounds like Da'Vonne did very well in the competition, but she also had some sort of argument with Bridgette up there.

So...that's something for us to look forward to on the Sunday night episode.

As usual, the conversation between Zakiyah and Paulie is very shallow.  In this case, they argued over whether or not Zakiyah's ensemble could be considered "bohemian" or not.  Zakiyah claimed it was, but Paulie argued that it was not...he thinks it is more tribal inspired.

Paulie:  Bohemian means artists...that's what it means...

Paulie started singing a song from Rent to prove his point, albeit a very stupid and stubborn point. He just has to be right about everything.  He even brought up "Bohemian Rhapsody" to prove his point.

(But what does that have to do with clothes?)

Nicole came in and got dragged into the shallow end.  Zakiyah wanted to know if Nicole thought her outfit was conventional, tribal, or bohemian.

Nicole.  Um..why?  Why?  Um....tribal.  IS  THAT BAD?  IS THAT BAD?  WHY? WHY? WHY?

Frank later said that Zakiyah's skirt looked like a "fancy bandana" and he considers that bohemian.

Paulie: The bottom line is that bohemian means a struggling artist, not a clothing style.

I think Zakiyah is just trying to shape some waves in his hair, but we all know she just wants an excuse to touch hiim.

Bridgette is baking to stay busy and keep sane.  She is making more peanut butter cookies, since they are Frank's favorite and she's been working on the recipe.  Mr. Jenkins watches over the process, and is probably lucky Michelle hasn't  poured soda in his soil.

Frank:  Bridge I never would have thought of using pancake mix, since we don't have any baking powder.  You really are Bridgette Crocker, at it again.

Bridgette:  And a Cabbage Patch kid.

Victor is cooking burgers for everyone, which apparently is not something he ever did in the house before.  There is a lot of sizzling going on in there right now.

Bridgette's cookies apparently have chocolate in the center, and she is rolling up more as she takes batches out of the oven.

Frank:  Holy crap, Bridgette.  Holy crap.  These are the best yet...they are incredible.

Bridgette can't wait to make them at home for her dad.

(She shouldn't say that out loud in there right now.)

Bridgette has a blob of chocolate on her arm and Frank cleaned it off for her.

Frank fed one to Victor, and then to Corey.  Both guys thought they were outstanding.

Victor:  I'm not even into sweets, and I loved that.

Corey LOVES peanut butter---it is his favorite food, and he's thinking about eating another cookie.

Frank:  I've already had four....they are so good when they are warm and the chocolate center is melty.

Paulie and Zakiyah came in the kitchen and Frank continued to publicize Bridgette's baking.

Paulie bit into one and the chocolate center burnt his mouth a little.

When Paulie walked in Frank told him he was "looking bohemian, brah".  (ha ha ha)

Zakiyah initially didn't respond to Frank's command invitation to enjoy a cookie, but then she picked one up and made a point of taking one small bite.

Frank:  How 'bout that cookie Zee?

Zakiyah, in a small voice:  Um...nice chocolate.

Zakiyah later told Nicole how she was badgered into tasting the cookie, but after taking one small bite she threw the rest of it away in "the damn storage room".  Zakiyah hates peanut butter, which is probably the reason for this, but she made it into a more Anti-Bridgette initiative.

(Zakyah is one of the meanest girls in that house towards Bridgette.  She and Michelle are continually BRUTAL to her.  I fully expect for CBS to show us a montage of this sometime this week, since Bridgette's game is at risk.)

I know some restaurants soak the french fries in water to remove some starch (?), but I'm not sure why they are doing that here.  It seems like you'd want to get the fries going so they would be ready at the same time as the burgers.

Victor:  Some of these are gonna be crispy as a mother fucker.

(i.e. the burgers, not the cold wet fries)

Nicole is up in the HoH room finishing up her shower.  Zakiyah went in there to trash Bridgette's baking, but also to talk about her flailing showmance.

She claims she will now keep her relationship with Paulie "business only" from now on, and won't engage in flirting with him anymore.

(Sure.  We believe you.)

Nicole points out that Victor whistles at Zee in the house, and they think Paulie might be jealous of that.  Zakiyah is also upset that Paulie offered to wrap up Bridgette's ankle before the competition.

(Robyn Kass might need to stop pilfering from the stack of Bachelor applications.)

Even though James is the HoH, he's hanging in the Have Not Room with Natalie, who still has more time on her Have Not sentence.

Paul came in and tells him how outrageous Frank and Bridgette's behavior is right now.

Paul:  I listened, but I was THIS CLOSE to calling them out.

(Yeah, sure you were Paul.)

Paul tells James that Bridgette is badmouthing him for going back on his word with her.  James did admit that he felt badly about that, and may have made a mistake.

James and Natalie talked for a long, long time.  At first Natalie was upset with James' nominations, saying that she had to go hide in the bathroom for a few minutes afterwards.

Natalie: But now I see that you did what the house wants, so I'm proud of you.

James:  I could either have one person mad at me when this week is over, or 11 people mad at me.

(Or you could have let someone else win HoH, because you didn't need to right now James.)

Natalie is very troubled by Paulie's behavior though.  She knows that Paulie was one of the driving forces behind wanting Frank and Bridgette on the block, but she says she saw Paulie talking to Frank, and he acted surprised and upset about James' nominations.

Natalie:  It was like night and day....he was acting like it was all your idea.

James' face was blank as he took that in: Oh....okay.  Well, everybody is playing everybody right now.

Natalie:  I guess. But it bothered me, and I want you to know that.

Natalie:  I wish Day had won...she was not about to come down from there.

James:  Day wasn't gonna drop while Bridgette was up there...Day doesn't trust her and that's why they were fighting up there. (!)

Natalie:  But Day would have put up Frank and Bridgette...and we could have stayed out of it.

The secret room is up there, probably in the old Pandora's Box room, or the Battle of the Block 2nd HoH bedroom.  I wonder what the secret power is?

Maybe there is some sort of screen where they can watch and listen to the house guests?  They do that in BBUK all of the time. (And BB Canada, too, although I don't like to compare our series to the Canadian version.)

Or maybe there is some sort of RESET button in that room?

Ian Terry has figured it out, reportedly.  He'd better try some mental telepathy to get that info to his friend Frank.  Frank may need that this week, depending on how the PoV goes later on today.

You know I am going to LOVE IT if the key to the Secret Room is to pull down on the "3rd Rib" or something, but it is more likely related to the telephone booth keypad, since Allison Grodner already threatened us with that new element in the house playing some sort of key role in the game.

And America is expected to come into play at some point....or so they said.

Meanwhile Zakiyah is just egging Nicole on about Corey, saying that his family must be so happy that she's a nurse, and a nice girl, and how much chemistry they have together.  She asked Nicole if she'd be willing to move to Texas, and Nicole said that there would need to be a serious commitment first.

(I'm sure Corey is fond of Nicole, but I have heard him tell the guys repeatedly that he doesn't even really want to date right now, since he just got out of a very long relationship.)

I am reminded of this old Far Side cartoon, which presents this situation in an all-too-accruate light, unfortunately.
