Big Brother After Dark - Strained Relationships and Sprained Ankles 8-20-12 #BB14

This episode aired on Showtime at 9:00 pm BBT on Sunday, and in the wee hours of Monday where I live.

Shane is the HOH, and Mike Boogie and Frank are on the block.  Frank won the POV yesterday, so Shane will need to name a replacement nominee the next day.  Tensions have been riding high as Frank and Mike have pushed hard for Shane to nominate Dan, or if not Dan, Joe.

1.  The show begins in a typical manner.  People are in the backyard.  Mike is stretching and getting ready to workout with Frank.  Ashley is laying in the hammock with Ian.  He has one foot on the ground and is rocking the hammock.  Britney is laying alongside on the ground.

Ashley is saying that she likes it when everyone is outside together, with no sneaking around plotting and gaming.  They may be getting beer tonight, and they discuss how it felt so competitive in the early weeks to get your share.  Ian mentions the night where JoJo drank about 1/3 of Wil's beer when he wasn't watching.  Britney says that people often take sips of other people's drinks when their backs are turned.  Britney got in the hammock with them.  They're all small---they fit.

Ian says that he is moving out of the Boom Boom Room.  The girls ask why and he says Dan asked him to switch beds with him.

Ashley's eyes get big and she says "Gulp".  (Dan doesn't want to sleep in the same room as Frank, and Boogie I guess. For a few more nights.)  Ian needs to speak with Frank about it first, since Frank is affected by the switch.  They discussed how hard it was to sleep in the Have Not room, particularly the first time with no padding on the textured steel frame, and BB didn't let them sleep on the floor.

2.  Shane and Dan are playing pool.  Dan still insists on wearing his red headband.  On the hammock Ashley reached up and touched Ian's shoulder and he grabbed her hand and said "what are you doing?"

Ian likes the squeak of the hammock, but Britney doesn't like it.  Joe says he likes it, too.  Joe is getting ready to work out.

I think Ian just said he would wait to have sex until his wedding night, but I am only guessing that based on the conversation afterwards.  Ashley asks what Ian's mom is like.  She has a good sense of humor, and probably thinks a lot of things on BB are funny.  She also likes Survivor.  Ian doesn't know who her celebrity crush is--they have never had that conversation.  Ashley wants to know her likes and dislikes.

Ian says she likes iced tea, TV, and reading gossip magazines.  Finally they badger him so much that he gets up to go somewhere else.  Britney told Ashley she was starting to feel like a third wheel out there, with all of "the gropage", then says the two of them are getting close.

Britney then goes into a detailed description of her furniture at home.  I think she said it is light blue microsuede.  Ashley asks a lot of questions--does she have blankets on the furniture?  Does Molly sleep in her bed?

Molly always sleeps in the bed with Britney and her husband, but it sounds like she chooses a different spot every night.  Britney says she gloats about it when Molly chooses her side of the bed and makes sure that Ryan knows that.  Ashley would love to get a dog someday.

3.  Frank and Mike are running in the backyard, back and forth, back and forth. Ashley asks Britney if she knows yet what Shane is going to do tomorrow.  She wants the girls to stick together in the game.  Ashley thinks Jenn is in favor of a girls' alliance but she worries that she goes back and forth telling info to Mike and Frank.

Dan is playing Ian now in pool and has a habit of saying "scratch-y, scratch-y" when it is Ian's turn to shoot. It is a cringe-inducing phrase every time.  Ian beats Dan just about every game.  He's a good pool player.  Ian is going to make a pool trophy out of "one of the hipppo's in there".  I assume he is talking about a ceramic hippo, and not any actual people.

We see a quick snippet of Danielle and Britney in the kitchen, talking to Jenn about a topic known and loved all over the internet.  Trey Gorman, Danielle's real "boyfriend".  You know Trey, right?  The guy Danielle had two dates with the week before she was sequestered for BB?

Britney, to Jenn:  We say "Forgot About Trey".

Jenn:  No, it's "Forgot about Dre".

Britney corrects Jenn and the cameras change.  Then we come right back and apparently Britney is grilling everyone about what they think their romantic situation will be when they get out of the BB house.  This is likely a ploy so she can talk about her own wedding AGAIN, and all of the sex she and her husband have on Saturday nights.  Ashley and Britney have baked cookies, and they are all picking at them.

Ashley says her love life will probably to right back to talking to the "two assholes" she was talking to at the beginning of the summer and the cameras change.

Outside we hear Dan say "scratchy" four times in a row and the douchechills come on strong.

Back inside Danielle is helping herself to a few warm cookies, and Jenn talks about how Ashley's cell phone is blowing up while she's in the house.  Ashley uses a service that transcribes all of her messages to email and she loves it.

4.  Outside Frank and Mike are doing ab work.  Frank has some innovative moves to work on his obliques.  Shane and Joe are doing the same thing on the other side of the pool table.  I can hear either crickets or a high-pitched technical sound in the backyard.

Shane shows Joe how to do tricep presses using the backyard furniture and they alternate doing those and doing pushups.  Joe's movements aren't pretty, but he's doing the best he can.  (I don't know many people who would shine working out next to Shane Meany.)

Britney doesn't want to leave the kitchen counter but Danielle makes her, and picks her up and carries her to the chaise lounge outdoors.  Shane does his best to coach Joe the proper form with the hand weights, but Joe usually goes back to the wrong form as soon as Shane leaves his side.  Danielle is giggling about Britney's bad mood and goes over to play Cornhole with Dan.

They are going to play badminton and Britney is going to change first.  We see Ian with a white ceramic figurine in the bathroom painstakingly using different colored nail polishes to make his trophy.  He has used black polish to write "14" on the head of the figurine, and appears to be using the different colors to create a triangle of colorful dots, like a racked set of pool balls, I guess.

Outside Danielle is very giggly playing Cornhole with Dan.  Now Ian comes out with his trophy and says whoever wins will get their name on it.  He proudly makes the rounds in the backyard, showing everyone.

I had to fastforward through the Cornhole and the workout, since there was no significant conversation.

Jenn is talking at the hottub to Britney about the merchandise she sells at her shows.  He tries to hire "really hot merch girls" to push her stuff.  Britney wanted to know what kind of stuff sells.  Jenn sells T-shirt, panties, shot glasses, etc.  She says her Jenn City band audience skews a little bit younger, and compares their fans to the Good Charlotte fans.  (?)

5.  Inside we catch the tail end of Frank having a few heated words with Joe about Joe trying to accuse him and Boogie of cheating on the POV.  Joe is hemming and hawing and says that "Frank would have won, anyway" and Frank says thanks.

The cameras quickly change back to the boring Cornhole game.  Then back as Joe and Frank clear it up and Frank says "no worries" and Joe goes back outside.   BB tells Joe to put on his microphone.

(Funny that I still heard Joe loud and clear, even without his microphone!)

Now Jenn is telling Britney that if your music is on TV or in a movie, then that is so lucrative.  She thinks that they have to use 20 seconds or so of the song to get the best money.

Jenn:  What you want is for your song to be in a movie, one of the summer blockbusters..

Ian is rocking alone on the hammock again.  Of course.

After commercial Dan and Ian are practicing hitting the shuttlecock back and forth.

Now we see Frank and Mike in the Arcade.  Mike tells Frank that he told Joe that he won't be going up in Frank's place, probably, then starts talking about Joe's claims about the POV competition.  The feed is interrupted, and then we hear Mike saying that Ashley thought he should play up the whole LA thing with Shane---how Mike can get connections for him, etc.

Britney walked by and Frank went outside to invite her to come chat with them.  Mike wants to know if Shane was influenced by Mike's $10K win to nominate him this week.  Britney first makes it clear that she hasn't spoken to Shane AT ALL about the nominations, so she has no idea.  She hasn't heard Shane talk about the $10K.

Mike:  Well, I knew I couldn't beat Shane, so...

Britney turns the conversation to how weirded out she gets in the house sometime--everywhere she goes she sees strange behavior and even the decor of the Arcade is strange and they just act like it is normal.  Mike says sometimes it seems like he's never been in the BB house before.  Sometimes Frank stops and imagines his day in the BB house on a TV screen.  And that freaks him out.

Britney leaves and they continue to whisper about the events that have happened with Britney, going back to Willie and Janelle days.  Frank wanted to let her know that he has no grudge against her, and Mike approves of that.

(Remember Willie Hantz?  That was at least 10 years ago!)

I will miss Mike Boogie's gameplay, but my dog WILL NOT miss their constant whispering.  I hope Frank does not continue to whisper with someone else.

6. The cameras go outside where Britney and Danielle are grappling and squealing in the backyard.  At one point Danielle has her upside down and then puts her down on the chaise lounge and starts wrestling her.  This is not a good angle for Danielle. Britney's tiny body next to her legs is not a good look for her.

Now they go back to badminton.  Britney and Shane are playing Ian and Dan.  Frank and Jenn watch them from the couch and they talk about being stuck in the Jury House.  Jenn is going to get her bass Fed Ex'ed to her or she will "go crazy" and Frank wants to "get drunk on the reg".  Frank asks if she knows that Dan wants to trade beds with Ian.

Jenn:  He's being so shady to us right now.

Mike is on the couch, too, and is talking about what Dan said to Ian.  Something like "you've got to get me out of this fucking bed!"  Frank and Jenn say that the slaw that Mike is eating "smells so good".

(Have you ever heard anyone discuss the smell of "slaw"?  I guess if it smelled bad, but to think it smells good sounds crazy.)

Mike has a plateful of something.  That's for sure.  They are all watching the badminton game.  It is very competitive and Shane is killing the other team.

Ian:  He's too good at sports!

They all laugh at that.  And Britney contines to be on Shane's winning team...  They are having long volleys of 6 or seven crosses across the net.  I think Joe is the Ref, standing off the side and calling foul when necessary. He just ruled against Dan on one close call.

(Who's ass will Joe kiss with his line calls?  Dan's, or Shanes?  Hmmmm.)

Someone else yells, "he's too good at sports!" and they all laugh.  Britney continues to pronounce Ian's name "Ai-ann".  Shane is jumping up with both feet off the ground to reach the target, without regard to getting hurt on that artificial grass.  (It's like an NBA star riding an ATV.)

6.  Frank needs to go take a shower but is dreading it.  He hates to go to bed with wet hair but says it definitely "needs to be warshed".

The game continued in earnest for about 10 minutes.  I fastforwarded through it since there was no game talk.  Jenn and Ashley talked low on the patio couch about how they can't talk out there.  Mike and Frank do that all the time, but I guess game talk is kind of new to Jenn.  They arrange to walk separately to the Arcade to talk.

(Like it would surprise anyone that they are trying to work together?  Who else are they going work with?)

Now I finally reach the spot on the tape that I have heard about, that Ian hurt himself playing badminton.  He says he twisted his ankle, and "rolled it".  He yells for someone to please get some ice and Mike goes inside, muttering that he hopes they have some ice, and in the house calls out, "Medic? Maybe?".

Outside Mike brings an ice pack and Ian wants to go to the DR.  Someone elevates his leg and Joe feels it and says it is a "low roll".  Ian is in pain and Mike holds the ice on his ankle for him.  They took off his shoe and he has several pillows under his foot.

Ashley: You all right Ian?

Ian:  Yeah.  I'm all right.  It's not like I'm competing tomorrow or anything.

The Showtime camera shows us the silent and empty dining room. Then you can see movement as everyone came back in the house.   Shane and Joe say they don't think it is something that will need surgery or anything--just a sprain.

They are cracking ice cubes, but putting them in their drinks.  So I guess there will be plenty of Ice for Ian, right?

7.  Now we see Ashley and Jenn in the storage room discussing Ashley's conversation with Britney about the nominations.  They are both nervous about tomorrow.  There is a large silver pail with candy in the storage room--a big swirly lollipop and a lot of boxes of candy.  There are small lollipops that resemble Blow Pops on the counter.

Ashley is saying that Joe said that Mike shouldn't have won the $10K.  Joe is hearing the news from both sides of the house, but he is not saying what his decisions will be.  He told her that if she does go up, Mike will be the one going home.  Jenn tried hard to sell Dan's nomination to Shane.  They wish each other luck and hug each other.  Ashley doesn't want to get too cocky like they were about Wil at first.

Ashley knows that Britney saying she doesn't know what Shane will do is total bullshit.  They are both snacking on the candy now.  Jenn wishes Joe would keep quiet and not make things worse.  They hope Ian is okay.

***I don't think they are going to show us this, but I read online that a Medic came to the house.  I think he came in the backyard because Dan, Shane and Joe (and maybe others) were there too.  The medic asked questions and Dan and Shane asked funny questions like "are you excited to be here?", "what are the ratings like?", and "do you foresee any upcoming twists?".  To my knowledge the medic did not answer any of these questions.

Also...they asked if the Zingbot lady had heat stroke.  I guess the Medic had to haul her out of there, too.***

8.  The dining room is empty and silent.  They decide the action is all outside, surrounding Ian, so they go outside.  Now we could just hear the medic talking and the cameras just switched to the bathroom, where Danielle is telling Frank about her singing lessons.

(Oh lord.)

We see the fish tank as Danielle demonstrates her singing.  She loves to dance in her car and she is "always that girl you pass with her hands up".  Frank says one of Danielle's feet is "super dirty".

(ha ha ha)

She thinks it is the foot she had on the ground rocking in the hammock.  Frank says "Ewww!" and she went over to the sink and washed that one foot.

(Ummm...Doesn't Frank stink?  Just sayin'....)

9.  The bathroom is empty and quiet and now we see Dan and Joe in the kitchen.  Frank came in from his shower visit and they tell him he missed Ian's foot injury, the medic coming in to wrap it...

Frank:  I always miss everything!  Every time I'm in the shower!

(I think he was in the shower during the Willie incident, too.)

There is a lot of commotion in the backyard, with people gathered around the washing machine and pool table.  Ashley holds up a black pair of briefs and says "These are definitely Wil's!  I am selling them on Ebay!".

The panties are the black pants that Wil wore for Spin the Bottle.  Now Jenn and Mike are talking about how when Wil left the house he took his shirt off to reveal a splashier shirt and Mike wonders why he didn't just wear that to begin with?

Jenn:  For the element of surprise!

Mike says he also snapped on a bracelet while he was leaving and Jenn says he has to accessorize!

10.  Mike says the medic was a really nice guy.  I think his name was Tarter.  Maybe his last name, though.

Now Mike compliments an outfit that Ashley wore.  He says it was very casual and he liked it.  It looked like she was just "hanging out at a guy's house".  She thanks him.  Frank is right there next to Mike on the couch while he raps with Ashley.

I don't see Ian in the backyard right now, and the show is nearly over.  But I did see him on the live feeds this afternoon (the day after this happened) and he was moving around nicely.  I think he will get to rest the ankle for a few days.  One of the competitions on Thursday is likely to be physical, so I guess we'll see what happens there.  It might be good for Ian to have an easy out, since he is likely not a target for anybody during the fast forward.

(Think Clown Shoe... remember that?  That type of quick killer competition might be the live POV.)

Mike says that his Grandmother went on the local radio show and gave a kind of "kooky update" for the other Big Brother seasons.  He mentions that during BB7 she had a TV segment with Dr. Will's mom and it was funny.  When he saw the picture of Frank's Nana in his HOH room, he thought that would be a good CBS segment, to show Nana with his grandmother.  But he says she is startng to get Alzheimer's, so he doesn't think that would work.  And his mother doesn't like to be on TV.  Frank doesn't think his mother would like that, either.

11.  Frank's Nana wanted to move somewhere outside of Memphis, so they looked for areas of the country where there was a good market to buy homes.  Naples was one of the areas, as was Savannah.  They picked Naples so Frank did some research online and rented a place.  After a few months she came down and bought a house.  I think Frank said he has lived with her for 8 years.  There is a house, and a guest house that he rents. He socializes with the renters, and met some people from bartending for a month.

As the show ends Ashley is asking detailed questions to learn all of this, while Mike looks on, amused with Frank's story.

(Ashley moved alone to LA, so she seems to relate to Frank's story.)
