Sneak Peek at the Jury Deliberations #BB16

These pictures were "leaked" on the CBS website and give us a sneak peek into the Big Brother Finale footage of Jury deliberations which were filmed in the last fews days on the CBS backlot.  The set is meant to look like the Jury House, but it is actually located on the studio lot.  The Jurors left the Jury House last week and moved into hotels in the LA area in preparation for the Finale.

(That's the way it is every year.  The last two evictees just go to a hotel room by themselves, which has got to be a big letdown for someone like Caleb, who had grand dreams of a swanky beach house, with infinity pools and a big yard to exercise in.  And also for someone like Frankie, who expects a Ritz Carlton-level experience but is probably staying at the airport Hilton.)

Anyway, here are Donny, Jocosta, Zach and Caleb. Caleb looks like he has a lot to say here.

I'll bet he does.

And here is the wide group shot. I'm told that is Dr. Will in the center of the picture, but I can't really see from this distance.   I guess that's exciting.  I would like to see someone like Mike Boogie step in and do the little jury pep talk sometime...he really respects the game and has a lot of good insights every time I hear him talk about Big Brother, which isn't often enough.

Actually, I've only heard Mike Boogie recently on Rob Cesternino's podcast.  And it was a great episode taped earlier this summer---here is the link if you missed it from way back in July.

Christine sure looks separated from the group, doesn't she?  Way over on the left side?

And wearing a dress, too.  Wow.

Frankie and Hayden didn't try to put on any airs or graces, though, did they?  Hayden is 21, and doesn't have a lot of showy clothes, so that's his excuse.  But Frankie just wants to push that Bratz Doll wardrobe with the oily legs.  He's just too old for that look.

And what is with the striped bowtie clipped on his vest? Was that really necessary?

And who is he scowling at?  His mouth is closed, though, so we should be thankful for that.  No hackey character voices appear to be spewing forth, nor any flying chunks of fish salad.

So that's a plus.

And another shot of Silent Frankie.  I just noticed that all of the jurors seem to be paired off----Jocosta and Donny....Zach and Caleb......Nicole and Donny, leaving Christine and Frankie.....

Since Frankie is sequestered in a hotel along with the other jurors, he's had no chance to capitalize on the Zankie charade.  And maybe he's even having to drink coffee from that cheapo little coffee maker that the Hilton has bolted to the wall in the bathroom, rather than the Starbucks he prefers to demand in order to refresh himself in the manner to which he is accustomed.

Just a guess.  Not trying to be negative.

(Ha ha ha.)

Since Caleb was the last evicted, I think this is the shot of him joining the Jury and being greeted by Nicole.  Look at Frankie's smug nose over on the left. Or is that a pissed off nose?

Frankie doesn't want his nemesis Cody anywhere near the Final Two.  Yet another vote for Derrick.

Is It a Grande Week, After All? #BB16

I reported earlier on Ariana Grande's scheduled appearance on this week's Saturday Night Live season opener.

Well, another blind item popped up today, and a lot of the CDAN readers are guessing Ariana....

That doesn't mean it's true...but still....

You can read the item and all of the colorful guesses here.

The Final Three Kill Time #BB16

Last night was the last night in the Big Brother 16 backyard.  It is getting cool at night in Los Angeles and only Victoria was bothered by it.  Both Cody and Derrick are from the Northeast, so the snap in the air feels like home to them.

Derrick wanted to get in the hot tub, but no one else was interested.  You can almost see abs on Derrick, right?  But my eyes might be messing with me, because Derrick got nominated for eviction twice as many times as he worked out this summer.

(i.e. NEVER)

Cody and Victoria sat and chatted with Derrick, as they discussed whether this would be the last time they would ever be in the backyard again.  (Production had told them that the backyard would be locked down until the Finale in a few short hours, so they know the backdoor would be locked soon.}

I hate to spoil the surprise, but they will go into the backyard right after the Finale ends for media interviews.  You know, Big Jeff and all.

I was really excited to hear that Rob Cesternino was invited to interview the house guests for Entertainment Tonight in the backyard after the finale.  Rob actually applied to be on Big Brother 3 and got pretty far in the process, so it would have been a great gig for him.  But apparently Entertainment Tonight cut the segment and no longer need Rob for the interviews.  I'm holding out hope that some other media enterprise will hire Rob to go back there, but it doesn't look good.

I was looking forward to hearing Rob's candid comments about the experience, and what happened behind the scenes with all of the house guests....  I'll be sure NOT to watch Entertainment Tonight from now on.  That should be an easy promise to keep...

There was some discussion about how nasty the water looked in the hot tub.  I don't think it has been treated with chemicals in quite some time.

Derrick must not have been too worried about it, because he dunked his head in the water.

The BB Rubber Ducky makes a cameo appearance in the hot tub.  They are all excited to see what former house guests show up at the finale.  For some reason Derrick thinks Michelle from BB10 will be there--she is from Rhode Island, too, but I think Derrick might be overestimating her relevance.

Cody played pool by himself, and then with Derrick.  Every summer the guys rule the pool table and have all of the time in the world to discuss the game.  Dan and Ian did it all summer during BB14, and if you watched the live feeds this year you know that the Bomb Squad hung out at the pool table every night.

In the early days of this summer, it was not uncommon for me to log on in the morning here on the east coast and see Cody, Zach, and/or Derrick playing pool after having been up all night.

Not once do I remember ever seeing Nicole or Christine play pool.  They just stood around and watched and brought them snacks and drinks.  How were the guys ever expected to think of them as equals in the game when they were always bystanders?

Derrick packed some more clothing, and you can clearly see some of the competition props in his bag.  Right on top is his cocktail card from the OTEV comp.  Victoria says she might look at her props for a few days and then throw them away.

(Hello...earth to Victoria...EBAY.)

That room looks so clean and uncluttered now.  Victoria told Derrick a funny story this week that I forgot to post.  Basically, for her BB intro videos, they had a full day of scheduled shoots with Production.  First she and her best friend were filmed shopping and having a cocktail.  Her friend ("Yael"?, maybe?) didn't think Victoria would actually be cast on the show, so she didn't even hug her goodbye when they parted ways.  Victoria said she'd text her later, but by then BB had taken her phone away and she was gone.

The next scene they shot involved Victoria doing a photo shoot for her photography business.  Victoria needed a really nice place to shoot, so she asked a new friend if she could use his condo for the photo shoot.  He had a multi-million dollar place in one of the high rises and gave Victoria permission to use it.

She got up there with the BB production crew and Victoria's handler needed to go to Victoria's car to get one of her outfits so she could wear something else.  Victoria's car had been valet parked by then, so it took the handler about 30 minutes to come back with the clothes.

In the meantime, Victoria worked to set up the photo shoot, and had a beautiful model there for the occasion.  Someone on the BB camera crew had leaned back against the digital stove, and didn't realize that the stove turned on when they did that.  The owner had a case of cat food in the oven, but they didn't know it.  (Typical bachelor storage spot.)

When the handler came back in the condo, she said "what is that smell?  Is something burning?"  And when they opened the stove it was filled with billowing black smoke from the packaging on the cat food.  They hurried to open the windows to let the smoke out before the fire alarm went off.  Victoria also said the cat got out and they were all freaking out trying to find it.  I'm not sure if they did find the cat because Victoria didn't mention that part.

The Punchline:  Right after they filmed the scene, Victoria was whisked away to play Big Brother, and Production took her phone.  So she never could contact the condo owner to explain what happened inside his house.  Or even to thank him.

I'm just going to tell myself that they found the cat, unharmed, because otherwise this story isn't funny at all.

Right now, Cody is the only one awake (at nearly 2:00 pm BBT on Tuesday) and he is trying to entertain himself.  First he ate a yogurt and stared at the picture wall.

Then he went upstairs and played with the chess pieces, and is now shuffling and reshuffling the deck of cards.  Production is bringing lunch from Panera Bread for them soon...the second day in a row for that restaurant but Cody had to make the call on his own, since he was the only one awake.

(They also had Chinese food and Greek food for lunch this week.)

Will Ariana's Busy Schedule Allow Her to Attend the #BB16 Finale?

Because she is the musical performer for the Saturday Night Live opener this Saturday.

Since she is also an actress, I would be surprised if they don't use her in a skit or two....and the rehearsals really start cranking up at the end of the week as they prepare for the live broadcast.  Of course, with Ariana being a diva and calling all the shots, I expect she will be anywhere she wants to be on Wednesday night.

SNL would be stupid not to do a Big Brother skit, right?  Frankie is just too easy to be made a fool of...and Ariana could play Victoria.  Julie Chen would be fun for them to poke fun at, also.

I guess we know where Frankie will be on Saturday....waiting in the wings....crouching in Ariana's little shadow...

The Last Slow Days in the #BB16 House

The house seems so big, with just three people rattling around in it.  They don't really go upstairs anymore, now that the HoH room is closed, and as in previous seasons, they just seem to sleep, eat, and talk about how excited they are to go home.

Victoria sat and ate cereal, reading the back of the cereal box.  That looks like quite a story on that box.  You can tell it is a healthy cereal marketed towards adults, because I don't see any Connect-the-Dots or Word Search puzzles.

I'm sure this picture says "serving suggestion" in small print somewhere on there.  You know, in case some idiots think that blueberries are in the box or something.

Derrick saw his suitcase in the storage room, and was happy to see it.  Both Cody and Victoria have had to pack over the summer when they were on the block for eviction, but of course since Derrick was never nominated, his suitcase was probably covered in cobwebs back in the Production warehouse.

He carried it back to the Fire Room and hoisted it up on the bed to start packing things up.  When he opened it, he found a pack of Winston cigarettes and started laughing.

I've always said that if future house guests were smart, they would bring in a few packs of cigarettes and just hang on to them, because having cigarettes in the Big Brother house can be great social currency.  For one thing, the smokers have an instant bond, and an easy way to meet outside to talk under the cover of cigarette smoke.  They are only allowed to smoke near the outdoor couches, so that situation makes for immediate rapport.

And even if you're not a real smoker, those cigarettes will come in handy.  Because every single smoker who has ever been in the house has always run short on the cancer sticks.  Except maybe Shelly Moore.  She must have brought in a bazillion cases of cigarettes, because Big Jeff was bumming them left and right, and Cassi was too.

Every year I'm sure people who consider themselves casual or party smokers probably ends up smoking in the house just because the opportunity comes up, and out of pure boredom.

(Last year Judd and McCrae traded cigarettes like prisoners, once the supply got low.  And the lack of smokes was a big source of arguments between McCrae and Amanda, too.)

We all know Derrick is smart and would have come up with that idea himself.  But maybe, just maybe he has heard me talking about the topic.  Or read my writing about the topic.  Whatever.

In any case, Derrick told Hayden one night when they were in the backyard drinking that he bought a pack of Winstons at the airport on his way to the show.  He thought they might come in handy, but when he learned that there were no smokers in the BB16 house he just left them in the suitcase.

Hayden kind of wanted a smoke at that point, and asked Derrick if he could go in the DR and ask for them.  I think Derrick went in the DR to ask but they said no.  (If someone had nominated Derrick then he would have been able to get them out of his suitcase....too bad Hayden didn't think about that!)

Derrick decided to have some fun, and went and told Victoria that he was ready to share "Secret Number One" with her.

Derrick:  Here's the first secret about me...I smoke.  Two or three packs a day.  But in here I haven't smoked...I thought I would quit this summer.  Here is the proof..

Derrick handed her the pack of unopened Winstons and she erupted in surprise.

Victoria:  DERRICK!  YOU SMOKE???

Derrick kept it going for a few minutes, but then confessed the truth, that he bought them at the airport for strategic purposes.

(I'm sure having smokes was helpful when he was working undercover, too.  There is instant rapport among the people who huddle outside to light up.  An easy way to make connections....a smelly, unhealthy connection, but still....)

Derrick:  No, I'm kidding you.  I can't smoke...see my one tooth?  That would wouldn't stain like the others and it would look weird...so I can't smoke.

Derrick told her about Hayden wanting a cigarette, and not being able to get it for him.  Victoria was very surprised about this, too, and seems to be re-thinking her whole opinion about Hayden.

Derrick:  He just caught a buzz and wanted one...I don't think he wanted Nicole knowing that he might be sitting outside smoking..  I got you good, right?

Victoria:  I was like, who is Derrick and what else is there?

Last week Derrick watched Caleb pack his things, and learned some techniques about rolling up clothes so more things fit.  Victoria says she always packs like that.  Derrick thinks it is a military thing, but actually any frequent flier knows this is not only a great way to use every inch of your suitcase, but it does prevent wrinkling....

Derrick has a lot more clothes leaving the house than he came in with, with all of the competition clothes and also a variety of props he wants to take home.  He said that if he had to choose, he would leave some of his "real clothes" behind, but he ended up feeling good about being able to get everything home safely.  He planned to put his shoes in a garbage bag and Victoria was surprised that he would do that.

(A major difference between the genders is their treatment of shoes.)

Derrick pointed out that it feels good to pack when they know they are the last three people leaving the house.  It's not a negative thing...it's a really happy occasion.
