We can all go home now. They won.

Meet David Girton, a 25 year old hailing from beautiful San Diego California. If you've never visited San Diego, then you really should put that little town on your list. You can enjoy all of the great things about California without all the Industry hoopla. I've stayed downtown in the US Grant Hotel across the street from Horton Plaza, and I also enjoyed a Love Weekend in La Jolla at an Embassy Suites after running the Rock 'N' Roll Half Marathon.
And I'm digressing already. Sorry. Just note that David is fortunate enough to be from a really great place where you can have a really good time.
And that special place might just be his own head. David tells Jeff that he is a lifeguard and Jeff says of course he is, he has that special vibe. David nods his head Yes and says he is a Matthew McConnaghy - Spicoli dude.
Jeff: That was all going around in my head, but I didn't know if you were open to it!
David: Yeah dude, I'm open to it.
They both giggle with obvious delight. If you don't know, this is Jeff Spicoli.
If you haven't seen the movie, then shame on you. Go rent it because I predict this movie is going to experience some BOOMERANG action once this season of BB starts. Don't be left out of the conversations about David by not watching this important piece of our culture.
Jeff asks him how he got into this whole thing--does he watch Big Brother?
David: Yeah, dude. I watched you and Jordan all summer!
Jeff, obviously thrilled: Yeah? You did?
David: Yeah! Dude, you scored! Dude, you got a dime for sure, man.
Jeff, chortling: Yeah, she's pretty cool!
Jeff wants to know if David has anybody at home that he's leaving. David assures him that he's 25, single and ready to mingle.
Jeff, already mirroring his new BFF: Dude! Then there's no better place, huh? Look at me, I picked up a dime!
They both cracks up like they've had three bong hits. David tells Jeff his strengths will be his looks and his competitive nature. He really likes to win first place every time. Jeff asked if he would be willing to throw a competition and David's not sure.
David: I'm not a quitter. And I think acting will come into play if I throw something. I don't know if I'm easy to read or not....I guess we'll see...
David thinks his downfall will be his poor hygeine. He doesn't take a shower or wash his hair because he's a hippie. He'll be in the pool every day but not the shower and he knows people will think he stinks.
As someone who values good grooming, Jeff can't believe this and doesn't understand why he won't take a shower. David said something about the warm water on his chest making his blood pressure rise, or some shit like that. Personally I find this excuse to be a Bad Highdea. (Do any of them turn out to be good?)
Jeff winds up the interview saying that David is a Fan Favorite as far as Jeff is concerned and that Jeff can't wait to see what happens to David in that house. At some point in this interview, Jeff started calling David "D.G." in a very enthusiastic fashion.
And they begin their Bromance with a special hand gesture.
As a Type A High Achiever my whole life, I have always admired the hippie vibe. The laid-back Cali style of life. I love that era coming back in style and attitude. So I was surprised and delighted to meet David and think he is as close to a home run in casting as they come, right?. We've had a few house guests over the years with a beachy type vibe, but nothing as strong as DG.
As far as the show goes, he's going to be a Star. Loved and hated but always remembered. David might even be the one who says "All Day All Night!" on the CBS commercial. (It's gotta be, right?)
You couldn't write a better part, could you? Hmmmm. Here's the thing: When David mentioned the acting, it was a little strange to me. Then when he said we'd find out if he was easy to read or not. Something in his presentation just seemed different.
And I thought:
What if David is making up this persona? Or exaggerating himself to be more of a 'character' with the whole "I'm stinky" trajectory? Dan Gheesling actually recommends doing this in his book How to Get on Reality TV and admits to doing a little acting himself to get cast on BB10. I just sat back and watched David's entire video again, trying to detect if David is yanking our chain or not. Still not sure.
And then I thought:
David is acting stoned in this video. Is it possible that he had access to some weed before the interview? Some edibles maybe? Maybe if he has a prescription for it since he's a Cali native?
(Is that how Ashley was so high last year? Did they let her have prescription pot in the DR? Someone please get cracking on this Very Important Topic so we can learn about these BB weed rules. TYIA)
If he's not actually high (which may be unlikely under the circumstances) then he was acting high. And that makes me wonder what else he might be acting about..and wonder how effing boss it would be if David tells us in the DR that he is really a PhD candidate with Brendon at UCLA and is playing the stoner role in the house. .I look forward to learning more about him from the fans though, because I know that people are flocking to the message boards with all sorts of info about all of the BB15 house guests right now. I won't start reading the other BB websites until I've met and commented on all of the house guests for myself, though. I never do. I like to form my own opinions. I know I'm missing some info and can't wait to dish it.
So David.....maybe his identity is solid and I'm the one with the Bad Highdea.
Well, it is Friday night.
Now, what were we talking about?
Meet Judd Daughtry, who is 26 and hails from Englewood Tennessee. He is energetic and friendly and has an instant, easy rapport with Jeff, who laughs frequently throughout the interview.
I will be brave and admit I have watched two episodes of MTV's Buckwild. OK, I've said it. Well, Judd would fit right in with that crowd, even though Buckwild was filmed in West Virginia. Tennessee and West Virginia are two different states, although the residents may look and sound the same, apparently.
Judd is an appraiser and when probed by Jeff about what that means, he explains he "drives around and looks at different construction and stuff like that" and then he looks at the tax rolls to see if he needs to "put it on there".
(As a homeowner who pays property taxes based on my county's appraised value, I find this very interesting, don't you?)
Judd is going to be Mr. Personality in the house, and tells us his nickname is "J. U. Double D Party Daughtry", pronouncing it with proud gusto. Jeff listens intently and is amused. For someone who is obviously not an aspiring Mactor, he is one of the best I've seen this year as far as looking straight into the camera and speaking with energy.
After rewinding the video to watch it again, I noticed Jeff asked if Judd was spelled with "Double D's" and this prompted Judd to tell Jeff the nickname. Obviously this was in Jeff's notes but I point it out because Judd did a great job taking the cue naturally.
Jeff wants to know what Judd does for fun in Tennessee and Judd admits to "a little partying". He likes to "go frog gigging", too, and hang out by the lake. (No "mudding", Judd?)
Judd needs to win BB15 because he is "broke as a joke", but would like to donate a little of the money to St. Jude's Hospital for the assistance they have given his nephew and another friend over the years.
Jeff ends the interview like this: Keep your cool....keep it J. U. Double D...
Judd: Party Daughtry!
I predict Judd will give good D.R, based on this interview with Jeff. I know the BB Super Fans are ripping Judd a new one regarding his country ways, but to be honest many of the CBS TV viewers will probably be able to relate to Judd. At the very least, he will be entertaining.
Let's make this clear: Production knows we will be laughing at Judd this summer. They expect that and that is why they cast him.
I'm guessing he was scouted in order to represent the "Buckwild" market. He might have even auditioned to be part of that cast. If so, I think they did a good job picking someone who would work in prime time, rather than in the 3:00 am MTV time slot.
I don't think Judd has much of a chance to win Big Brother. If he makes it to the jury, it will be because he teamed up with some strong players, forming a solid group like the Brigade. He might be the kind of guy who would get the votes if he makes it to the end because I think he will be likeable and you know how the jurors like to really stick it to the Final Two sometimes.
I can see Judd going all out in the challenges and appears strong and athletic. Sometimes the house guests like to get rid of an athletic guy early in the game, but Judd's "Yee Haw" and "Aw Shucks" mannerisms may convince others to keep him around, perceiving him as a dimwit.
I don't like to sterotype, but if Judd is not cool with gay people then that will either be a big point of conflict, or perhaps a sweet, teachable moment if he can learn to accept diversity. I have no clue what Judd's opinions are of gay people, I'm just giving my forecast regarding his potential pitfalls in the BB15 house.
I'm guessing he isn't very familiar with the show, but I think he will really whoop it up in there and have a Big Time when he has to wear the costumes for the competitions. I also predict that Judd may be very open to nudity in the house, and might do a little streaking when the booze starts flowing.
I think Judd will be fun to watch this summer, but I don't think we will be watching Judd all summer long. But I do think he has a good chance to make jury, because I can't see him making too many enemies early in the game. His temper could be a factor too, of course, but I expect that to be very entertaining as well.
***UPDATED WITH NEW INFO ON 6-24-13***
Meet Spencer Clawson, a railroad conductor who "drives trains for a living" from Conway Arkansas. Spencer is an unapologetic Southerner with a moderate accent. I've certainly heard stronger accents in my days of living in the South.
Spencer is a true Big Brother fan, and has been since BB6. Jeff points out that is a "lot of Big Brother" and Spencer agrees.
I actually had to look up what a train conductor does, and it is quite interesting. Here is the link if you are interested. It seems like a lot of responsibility and Jeff points out that Spencer's profession is somewhat isolating. He wonders how Spencer will handle being in the house with all of those people after being so isolated during the day.
Spencer enjoys talking to people, and actually talks to a number of people on the job, he says. It is a very male-dominated business and there is a lot of "locker room" talk, which he thinks will help him get by this summer in the BB house.
Jeff: So if the train falls off the tracks you can just pick it up and put it back on.
Spencer: Yes, that's actually part of my job description.
Jeff asked Spencer if he is a clean person, and he immediately said "NO!" He doesn't like to do dirty dishes or fold laundry at home, but plans to be "Spencer 2.0", a "better version of himself" in the house because he knows that will be necessary. He's going to give being a clean guy a try.
Jeff: What would you do with the money if you win?
Spencer: Oh, dude!
He would like to buy several rental properties around town--there are three colleges in his town and there is always a need for rental properties. He would still keep his job, but collect the rents and maybe live off that one day.
Jeff: You've really got your head on right!
Spencer knows that there will be a lot of boredom in the house and he plans to tell himself that this is a "dream come true" and "it's like a vacation because he's in the Big Brother house".
Jeff encourages him to remember this in the house, because this attitude is going to come in handy. They end the interview warmly and it feels sincere on both sides.
Another true Big Brother fan! Of course I always love to have them in the house, particularly if they are not aspiring actors. Based on this interview, I can tell Spencer is a genuine person and is going to be a straight shooter as far as dealing with people.
He is confident about his ability to bond with the men, but I'm guessing he is mature enough to make nice with the ladies, too. His admitted messy behavior may be a red flag in the house, but at least he is aware of it and is going to try to not be such a slob this summer.
Scroll back up to the pictures that show Spencer's hands. Good god! Those are some huge sasquatch paws, aren't they? He must shop in the Big & Tall store. We all know this means that many of the competitions will not suit him (endurance, hanging by his arms, etc) and I'm not sure Spencer is built for speed. Hopefully he can prevail in the mental challenges. To his advantage, I don't think he will be initially perceived as a threat in the challenges, which may keep him out off of that "nomination couch".
Speaking of mental challenges, emotional intelligence is a big factor in any house guest's success in the Big Brother house. The ability to control your emotions and use self-awareness to your advantage can be the crucial factor that separates the winners (Dan Gheesling, Hayden Moss) from the pre-jury evictees (BB14's JoJo, Willie Hantz, etc.) I think this factor will certainly weigh in Spencer's favor. I'm guessing he is in his mid to late 30's, so those extra years of life experience are going to help him in the long run.
Also, I hate to stereotype, but Spencer looks like he might be a smoker. Smoking is a good chance to sit and get to know the other house guests, particularly if you brought a few extra cartons in the house for the house guests who want to borrow a cancer stick. (Like Jeff Schroeder, who apparently smoked Shelley's "rippers" all summer long in BB13.)
And speaking of people who sat on that outdoor patio and smoked all summer, let's be careful not to draw too many comparisons between Adam Poch's (BB13) gameplay and Spencer at this point. Yes, they both are tattooed, bearded older house guests, but let's hope that is where the similarities end.
(I don't hate Adam, just his BB13 game play and particularly his abhorrent behavior at the BB13 finale.)
Big Brother is a marathon, not a sprint, and as a fan Spencer knows that. I think Spencer can go far in the game, if he can learn some cleaning skills and stay calm during all of the turmoil.
I'm not really sure how "important" this really is, but if you are reading this post then I guess there is a good chance you will appreciate the information. I just watched Spencer's video interview over at WeLoveBigBrother.com and I learned a lot of new info about Spencer. Thanks Matt Maynard for all of your thoughtful preparation and execution.
I liked Spencer's interview with Jeff, but this video gave me whole new insight about Spencer. Here we go:
1. Spencer is straight. (I had heard some chatter that must have been wishful thinking about Spencer being gay, so I'm glad Matt had the nads to ask this question. For the record, the question seemed like no big deal to Spencer.)
2. He says he's single at this point, but "it's complicated". Ballsy Matt doesn't let him get away with that and pushes for more info. It sounds like Spencer and his girlfriend were on a break when he applied for the show and they recently started talking again. She knows he's in the house, but I guess they have an agreement to extend their break for the BB15 season, at least.
3. When asked if he would have a showmance, he laughed and acknowledged that most of the guys cast are hunk types. His preferred strategy would get in the Friend Zone to gain confidence, and then use the relationship to gain information. He admits that in real life, being in the Friend Zone is a "real nightmare".
4. He has been a fan of BB since BB6, but only bought the live feeds for BB7. He says he "keeps up with it, though", so I'm guessing he reads live feed updates and the like. (Hi Spencer!) He has a friend named Rachel who is also into BB and they meet for lunch and go over strategies, like who should do what and vote for whom. (That is good experience in my opinion.)
5. This was his first year applying, but he didn't want to go to a local audition. In order to stand out, he went to the open call in Maine. (!) He also grew his beard out longer and said he really stood out that sea of "Mainers".
6. He seemed offended to be compared with Adam and accused Matt of comparing him to the other fat, white, red haired older guy. Matt seemed alarmed and turned to the camera and told Spencer that "Adam was surely watching" and Spencer calmly said "Hey dude!". (Cool.)
7. But then, the bad news: He said his game would be more like Enzo Palumbo. Yes, he said that. He likes how Enzo was friendly with everybody, but kept other relationships going. (What about never winning a fucking thing Spencer? And hiding cubes of cheese in his Penguin Costume?)
8. He's worried about "Group Think" in the house, because once the whole house is set on one person, it can be very hard to turn the tide, because everyone is just so glad it's not them.
9. He doesn't want to win the first HoH because then he's going to have to create enemies via nominations right away.
10. Spencer realizes that you can "win America's heart with your DR sessions". (Yes, finally someone said it. Finally, after how many seasons of this shit?) He feels it is more important to have the house guests like you, but then acknowledges that America's Votes in the past have been key for likable house guests.
11. He heard the rumors that family members might be on this season, and knows that he has family members that would be great, and others who would be horrible at the game. He would hate to see one particular ex-girlfriend in the house and would vote her out immediately if he could. (How effing great would it be if that was Gina Marie?)
12. Matt played what was supposed to be a fun game with Spencer where he had to answer trivia questions about important moments in BB history. But they asked questions about BB2 and BB3, and Spencer said he didn't watch those seasons earlier in the interview. So he repeated it again and Matt asked more questions about BB2 and BB3? But I get what the game was supposed to do, so I support him trying to play it with other people who claim to know the game. It kind of made Spencer look like a yo yo (to quote a Eudy-ism) but he's still cool with me.
I hope Spencer goes far in the game. I've never met a train conductor and I am interested to see what he can pull off in there. I wish I hadn't heard the Enzo comment, but I wouldn't be doing my job here if I didn't tell you, too. I hope Spencer is ready to play a good game and dazzle us with some Dastardly Deeds.
***ALSO*** I have had this song ringing in my ears for two days now, and I'm going to blame it on Spencer. It is Driver 8, an old REM song. Maybe if the song gets in your head it will get out of mine.
Or, just jam the fuck out to this wicked old REM song, Oddfellows 151. Maybe hit the peace pipe, shove in some earbuds, and do a little chair dancing. Back in the day REM was boss.
***NOTE: UPDATED WITH NEW INFO ON 6-24-13.***
Kaitlin Barnaby is a 23 year old bartender from Minneapolis, and sat down for a little chit chat with Jeff. She says she is a fan of Big Brother, but is "kind of a newbie". She plans to "tease people and play with their minds".
Jeff asks her if there is a line that she will not cross, and she says she doesn't know yet. She is not going to be a fan of confrontation and doesn't like whiny girls. (Who does?) She's going to try to "hold it in at first but will probably talk crap in the Diary Room". (We hope, right?)
She wants to play her own game and not have to rely on anybody else. Jeff points out that when she's up on the block she's going to need to trust people and work with them.
Kaitlin: These people aren't going to be trustworthy, though.
She then discusses how she is a "closed" person and doesn't open up to people very easily.
I think Jeff was working hard in this video. As you can see from the pictures, Kaitlin wasn't playing to the camera and was just staring at Jeff most of the time.
I guess that's understandable. Jeff is attractive and has developed into a very engaging host. This is great training for him and I see a big improvement from last year. Not that Jeff was bad in his videos last year, but I see a lot more polish and he is comfortable in this role now.
I know this is supposed to be about Kaitlin, but I ran out of things to say about her. I did notice a rather large piece of jewelry on her ring finger. Maybe she's married?
I am watching the CBS videos first, and will then watch the other interviews that are posted online, but even though I don't know much about Kaitlin, I am prepared to make a statement.
I don't expect Kaitlin to do very well in the BB house based on a few factors:
* Obvious lack of knowledge of the game
* Lack of ability to be a catalyst in conversations (i.e. needs prodding)
* Admitted reluctance to open up to people
* Observed lack of warmth (first impressions can stick in the BB house)
* Admitted difficulty getting along with women
I hope she surprises me. But I've been a FeedWatcher for a long time, so I have to say I think Kaitlin could be an early boot. I don't know anything about her fitness level, so she might do well in challenges, but according to this video she is going in that house with a big chip on her shoulder and that's not going to help her. I will contrast her to Hayden Moss, who was equally clueless about the BB game when he was cast for BB12. But Hayden had the social skills (if not a little low key) and was eager to be friendly with all of the house guests, male or female. There's a difference.
And if she is married, the living conditions are probably going to be especially grating to her. (Compared to other house guests who may be used to a having roommates and a more open living situation.)
Don't get me wrong, I can empathize with that, and there is NO WAY I could live in that house with all of those strangers, even if there were no cameras watching me every moment. And I know that the Press Junket day can be long and grueling, so maybe she was out of energy for the day at the time of this interview. But playing Big Brother is 24/7 so Kaitlin needs to Get to Steppin'.
She might even be the first eviction, but I still have 13 other videos to watch. If I need to update my forecast later then I certainly will. But I don't think so. Sorry Kaitlin. As a consolation prize, your look reminds me of Jennifer Garner. And that is a compliment.
Just because she says she is from Minneapolis, that doesn't mean she isn't living in Los Angeles now. I suspected that from the first few seconds of this video, but maybe not since she didn't make much eye contact with the camera and didn't turn on the charm very much.
I'm not really sure how "important" this really is, but if you are reading this post then I guess there is a good chance you will appreciate the information. I just watched Kaitlin's video interview over at WeLoveBigBrother.com and it was really informative and I feel like I know Kaitlin much better. Thanks Matt Maynard for all of your thoughtful preparation and execution.
Here is new info I learned about Kaitlin:
* She's not just single, she's "super single" and had some sort of major break up about three months ago. (I'm sure we will know all about that very soon, as chicks love to discuss their relationships in the BB house.)
* Her type of guy is tall, dark and tan, but she might like to date someone edgy for a change and try someone with tattoos.
* She's open to having a showmance, particularly as a strategy, but she won't be getting laid in the house. She kept mentioning that her dad was going to be watching.
* She was scouted when she was bartending, and thinks she might have been having fun with some of her regular customers. She said a lady came up and handed her a card and said "we need you!" and things just went on from there.
* Here's the thing: Kaitlin had "never heard" of the show until then. (WTF?) She's been watching it since then and is excited about the competitions. She likes to win.
* She hates politics and doesn't even want to discuss it, by the looks of things. She also doesn't like to eat meat but does not call herself a vegetarian.
* She "doesn't go handing her shit out like crazy". Meaning she's not loose, I guess.
After watching this video, I can see more of her personality. She didn't vibe well with Jeff in his interview, obviously, or maybe he made her nervous since she watched his episodes. This format was much more comfortable I'm sure, just sitting on a couch in a hotel suite. She is extremely cute and I didn't really get that from Jeff's video. Extremely cute. Like, model cute but in a natural way.
I still think she will be an early out, but let's remember that Lisa Donahue, winner of BB3, was cast in the exact same way. Except Lisa worked in a bar on Sunset Strip, so she was more convenient as far as casting goes, and as I recall she was cast at the very last minute.
