Newbie Preview - Meet Ian Terry, Lovable Nerd #BB14

Meet Ian Terry, one of the lucky newbies cast to appear on Big Brother 14.  This interview is exclusive content on SuperPass, where you can still get the Early Bird Special Offer through July 11th.  (Don't be scared, just click on the link in the above left corner of this webpage and you can be watching these videos yourself within 5 minutes!)

OK.  Here we go.

1.  Ian is from Pittsburgh, but he is attending school at Tulane, down south.  He loves it, it's a work-hard, play-hard environment and is very competitive but is rewarding when you succeed.  He mentions the atmosphere at Tulane being 'laid back' twice. If he has to miss the fall semester because he is in the Jury House or still in the game, he is fine with that, but he is an engineering student first and foremost.  He is living one of his dreams by being on the show, though.

2.  He will miss Bruno's cheese fries, and I think he says that twice and says that they are excellent.

3.  He started watching Big Brother when he was 10, during Big Brother 2.  This is the first time he has applied to be a cast member.  He started watching the live feeds during BB12 and continued the feeds through BB13.  He has seen every episode of the CBS show since Season 2, and considers himself a huge fan.  (I agree with that assessment.)

4.  He mentions Dr. Will as being the best BB player, and then some other players that are refreshing (for me) to hear.  Roddy from BB3 had some of the same qualities as Will and Jack from BB4 who played a good honest game are also Big Brother players he admires.  He liked how Dr. Will kept everyone guessing and manipulated everyone on both season he appeared on.

5.  He doesn't plan to let the other players know how much he knows about Big Brother---he will let them know he understands strategy, but won't mention details like the color of the carpet in previous seasons, etc.  He thinks that will put the other people off.

6.  He would like to be a hero in the house, but suspects he will actually be a villain.  He does plan to be in an alliance with at least one person--you have to have an alliance, according to Ian.  He will be as honest as possible and would like to play a genuine game, but thinks lying is necessary to win.  He will not be a floater and will choose sides.  He will not be a player who doesn't have a plan and just meanders around day to day.

7.  Physical challenges may be tough for him, but the mental challenges will suit him well.  He has a talent of remembering what date different things happened for an absurd period of time and thinks this will help him.

8.  Slop doesn't sound good, but Chicken George did it for a long time so he will go for the longest period of time if he has too.  He will wear a ridiculous outfit if he has to and is up for anything he needs to do. (Ian is referring to the Veto Challenge where you bid on horrible prizes to win the POV.)

9.  He can see himself crying in the house depending on what happens, and may yell at someone.  Anything can happen in the Big Brother house.  He is trained at reading people and making observations and drawing conclusions so that should help him in the house.

10.  His least favorite players?  Chima (BB11) due to her behavior in the house.  It was clear that she didn't want to be there,  she complained all the time, didn't want to participate, so she shouldn't have been there.  He also mentions Amber from BB8 as being an annoying crybaby.  (These are also refreshing answers and prove to me that Ian is a genuine fan, not just someone who knows Brendon and Rachel from watching in sequester.)

11.  He is single (SHOCKER) and would be up for a romance with a brunette who is sweet, cute and genuine.   She must be intelligent and down to earth.  He likes redheads, too, but is not partial to blondes.

12.  He is a neat freak and is going to hate living with someone who doesn't wash their hands or god forbid doesn't flush, he is going to have problems with them!

13.  He is neither a dog or cat person.  They are nice, but make a mess and he doesn't like that.  (Boo.)

14.  He watches Survivor, used to like The Mole, and the Challenge series on MTV.  He used to watch The Amazing Race but not so much anymore.  He considers himself a HUGE Survivor fan.

15.  He is very worried about having to evict someone on the first night--he would like to spend at least one night in the Big Brother house.  He saw this happen on an international version of BB and he is concerned about this.

16.  He has been on Survivor Sucks for years and used to post there and has been insulted a few times after posting about their speculation about things.   He also posts on Digital Spy and says we can figure it out and does not want to name his friends on the sites.  He wrote a few updates for BB sites, but mainly just watched the live feeds.

17.  He gives a plug for the Live Feeds and will be aware that we are all watching the entire time.  The live feeds really let you know what is going on in there and he thinks he has an advantage in that he is familiar with them..

18.  He has one younger brother who is 19 and is worried about embarrassing his family with his antics.  When asked, he lists a host of these antics, like being goofy, doing cannonballs in the pools, etc.

19.  His is being allowed to bring all 7 pairs of his crazy colorful sunglasses in the house.

20.  His favorite movie is Office Space.  He  loves to read and his favorite books are The Great Gatsby, East of Eden, and Drunken Walk, a book about how randomness can affect your life.

21.   He likes rock and house music and recommends the Artic Monkeys and thinks we should all check them out.  He also is a fan of Calvin Harris' music.

22.  He is an occasional smoker, and enjoys a few beers here and there but doesn't plan to go crazy:  "It won't be like Animal House in there for me."

23.  He supports all of the Pittsburgh teams and give the Pirates a shout out.  He thinks they are finally having a good season this year and it is ironic that he may miss it.

24.  He can't imagine anyone famous knowing who he is, although he says it seems possible now.  He would consider any opportunities that are offered for Reality charity-type events, but his goal is to be a Chemical Engineer so his feet are firmly on the ground.

25.  He gives a big Shout Out to all of us, the Big Brother fans and knows how important we are to the game.  He watched for 11 years and look at where he is--we should keep trying to get on the show if that is our dream.

FEEDWATCHER FORECAST:  Ian is adorable.  He has a very easy, pleasant speaking style and nice teeth, which is an important quality for the nerdish types.  Part of being intelligent is what you know, but most of being smart is how you use what you know.  If Ian can use his extensive Big Brother knowledge and sprinkle it with his scientific powers of observation and drawing conclusions, he may go very far.  I think the Alpha Males won't worry about him too much, but if they are all worried about his skill in the mental challenges he may be at risk.  I think Ian will make the Jury, at least.

I think Ian is going to be one of my favorites.  He is a real person, and a genuine fan.  It is no surprise he was cast, after the popularity of Cochran on Survivor.  Ian is much more appealing than Cochran, however, and seems to lead more of a well-rounded life.

Who Will Be Ian's Mentor?  If Dan doesn't choose him, I think he will go very late in the draft.  I don't think he will want to be on Janelle's team since he doesn't seem to admire her type of game.
